04 Jan My Very First Class at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition
Sitting in my very first class at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition in Mississauga, Ontario, I knew I was home. The class was Energy Medicine. I was amazed to learn about the ongoing research into energy blockages and core beliefs, and how they can directly affect our physical outcome! To learn that there are techniques which help to balance these states was even more exciting! Beyond that course, the program went into courses on Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, and the fundamentals of nutrition. I learned why B vitamins are so important to cellular metabolism for example, and the mechanism by which certain fats can be deadly to the body, while others are essential to health. The Certified Nutritional Practitioner program at IHN answers the “why’s” to how our bodies progress into disease states, but more importantly, the program teaches its students specific strategies to reverse the progress of disease through diet, nutritional supplementation and lifestyle.
In my practice I constantly refer back to my notes and textbooks from IHN. Although I see many similar symptoms, every client is unique, and there is no “one size fits all” answer. Having an understanding of the systems of the body, its tissues, and the cells that make up the tissues, I provide the information that the client needs to restore health. The holistic approach takes into consideration the way in which the systems of the body work together, and are affected by the health of each other. Every client receives their own individualized assessment detailing the strategy to address their particular health condition.
